Residents of Irele community in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State have recovered the lifeless body of a woman who was reportedly shot dead by suspected bandits along the Irele/Oke-Ako Road.

The Irele/Oke-Ako axis shares a boundary with Ogbe in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, a border area that has in recent times witnessed security concerns and reported cases of abduction.

Report mentioned a video where scores of residents were seen gathered at the scene where the woman’s body was discovered.

The atmosphere was charged with anger and sorrow as sympathisers wailed while others lamented over worsening insecurity in the area.

The deceased woman’s body was later placed at the back of a van by residents who had gone to recover her remains. Many of those present were visibly shaken as they mourned her tragic death.

A male voice was heard speaking in the background of the video, expressing frustration over what he described as inaction by security operatives.

“You can see what is happening here. This is one of the women kidnapped along Irele; the woman they shot. The residents went to pick up her body. She was kidnapped seven days ago,” the man said.

He continued, addressing fellow residents, saying, “Irele people, can you see? Your soldiers who are in Oke-Ako are doing nothing. There is nothing the government wants to do to help us.

“Until we take drastic steps and actions by ourselves… You can see what is happening to our people. Other victims are still held captive by the bandits. All the soldiers are just coming to the city to sit and do nothing.”
