Nigeria’s vibrant music landscape is set for a major shake-up as veteran disc jockey and entertainment promoter, Kayode Akanle, popularly known as DJ Hotega, officially unveils the Naija Area Code Music Contest — a street-inspired, talent-discovery competition powered by his record imprint, Hot Unit Entertainment.

The all-year-round music challenge is designed to discover, nurture, and produce world-class music stars straight from the streets, giving under-supported creatives a real shot at industry recognition. In a thrilling announcement, Thepagenewsng was named the official media partner for the groundbreaking contest.

“Naija Area Code is more than just a talent show — it’s a movement,” DJ Hotega said. “We’re bringing the spotlight to those raw, undiscovered gems from the corners of Nigeria who only need a stage to shine.”

According to DJ Hotega, the Naija Area Code platform targets young and emerging entertainers — singers, DJs, dancers, poets, and comedians — offering them a chance to express their creativity and gain exposure to industry power players including record label executives, A&R specialists, and entertainment journalists.

Participants can submit two-minute music performance videos online, showcasing their unique sound while repping their hood. Videos with the highest engagement (likes and views) will automatically advance to the final battle rounds held during the monthly “Radio Bash with DJ Hotega” on Raypower 100.5 FM and other partner stations.

For those unable to participate online, the contest’s Naija Area Code Train will tour various Nigerian communities, giving upcoming artistes a chance to perform live when the movement stops in their area.

Record Deals and Industry Recognition Await

The stakes couldn’t be higher — three major record labels have already signed on to sign and support winners at the grand finale in December. These include:

  • Jonliz Records (Dubai/Nigeria)
  • Blueboss Records, Lekki, Lagos
  • Tmoney Atlanta & L’America Recording Label, USA

Each quarter will feature different varieties of music and performances, ensuring that every genre and style gets its moment under the spotlight.

“This isn’t just a show — it’s a real chance to change lives,” Hotega emphasized. “The best performers will walk away with record deals and the mentorship needed to thrive in the global music industry.”

The Naija Area Code contest promises to attract top industry figures — producers, DJs, sound engineers, label executives, actors, and A&R experts — making it not only a competition but also a networking hub for Nigeria’s entertainment future.

How to Participate

  • Create a 2-minute video showing your talent and mention your area code or hood.

  • The videos with the highest engagement make it to the live radio rounds on Raypower FM.
  • Alternatively, artistes can join the Naija Area Code Train when it stops over in their community for an on-the-spot audition.

“Naija Area Code — where talent meets opportunity,” DJ Hotega declared. “Show yourself, rep your hood, and let the world hear your sound!”
