Food Security: UNILAG Partners Agroween For Agric Fiesta.

Organisers  of the annual food security project, Agroween have given  a hint of the  involvement of The University of Lagos in the 2025 edition of the event, even as the event initiators mentioned that activities towards the hosting this year’s edition of the l Agricultural fiesta have kicked off in earnest.

 The year 2024 edition was a  two day event which held  in collaboration with the Yaba College of Technology, with the school’s Rector Dr Ibraheem Adedotun as Co-host.

With the theme: Unlocking Agricultural Potential For Economic Growth, the event that took place   at the Yaba Tech premises, was Chaired by a Former Commissioner  in Lagos  and Chairperson LASACO Assurance  PLC, Mrs Teju Phillips. 

Nigeria first lady, Mrs Oluremi Tinubu got a Special  Agro Recognition Award( ARA), for her promotion of Agriculture and initiative towards  food sufficiency.

The program is a food, Agriculture and Innovation festival, powered by the Intergenerational  Rescue foundation, a United States Of America based Non Governmental Organization.

According to Agroween ‘s Chief Volunteer cum COO, Bimbola Bolaji-Aghahowa, the 2025 edition of the event has been designed to be bigger than the previous ones.

In the words of Aghahowa, the success of the last edition is  motivation for us to want to do more in the area of creating awareness for the need for food sufficiency, Agricultural produce availability, encouraging youth farmers and quality farm produce display and sales.

The COO said there are plans to extend the festival beyond the two days it had last year, adding that more farmers and food products producers and entrepreneurs will be given more opportunity to sell and display thier products.

She revealed that many people are looking forward to the food products sales this year because of the unimaginable cheap prices food items were sold last year.

” This year edition will be bigger as we expect more sellers and products on display. We shall also be unveiling some of our Youth farmer clubs, to send the signal to others that Agriculture is no longer a business of the future but a business of now and our youths must be encouraged to be part of this trend because it’s important that food is available in the country”.

Aghahowa who mentioned that modalities are still going on regarding the dates for the event, called on individuals, corporate organisations and government to support Agroween’s desire for food sufficiency in the country.
